How to overclock an AMD CPU

  1. Open your case and remove the CPU cooler.
  2. Remove the AMD CPU and burn it with much fire.
  3. Go online and buy an Intel CPU.
  4. Install the Intel CPU and get way better performance.

Untill AMD ZEN is released, this is trueish

Looking to just learn how to OC, I don't really care too much about overall performance, just looking to learn. Suggestions on CPU and mother boards? Trying to stay cheaper, but I really don't want a complete shit bios. any suggestions?

If you want some useful advice the amd 860k, or any of fx series cpus would be good, since you are planning on overclocking get at least a a88x board for fm2+, or a 970 board for the am3+ one.

If you are doing so heavy overclocking you will probabbly want a decent cpu watercooler at least 240mm, and a decent psu as well.

I actually plan on putting this on my first custom water cooled build, I want to learn overclocking, and custom watercooling. So I figured why not knock them out in the same PC? I'll cross reference those with some of the intel suggestions. However I'll probably go with this one, because I feel like Intel will end up pricier.
