None of the games you've mentioned come close to one of the ones I mentioned.

But hey, it's a matter of opinions I guess.

yes, i have to agree but i didnt say they where better, i said they come close, but i have had alot of fun playing these games at my friend's home, its not the games that make me think they are great but the fact that i played them at my friends home

I don't have enough memories from the 90's to pick a year from there, although I've had some great times on the Dreamcast with Test Drive: Le Mans, and the Nintendo 64 and Goldeneye. It wasn't until later that I was more involved in gaming. With that being said, I'd have to choose 2004, you had Half-Life 2 (along with Counter-Strike: Source, and the first release of Garry's Mod), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Far Cry, and Battlefield Vietnam (which is still my favourite Battlefield game). Also Doom 3, but I never could get into that.

Of all those games though, Half-Life 2 really felt like a new era, and to a smaller degree Far Cry. I haven't felt like there's been such a giant leap forward since then. And I don't think any game has aged as well as Half-Life 2. Still a brilliant experience to play without mods, and doesn't feel anywhere near as dated as a 10 year old game should. And it's a whole new ballpark when you bring mods into it.
