Hey my helpful Tec guys,

I got a rather strange „problem“ concerning the usage of Amazon Fire TV’s VLC application.

1)      What my problem is:

I tried to watch an anime on my Smart TV, but it didn’t manage to show me the subtitles I needed, so I googled the problem, which brought me to the following solution (I know there might be others, but I want this one to work)
I can use the VLC application on my Amazon Fire TV in order to stream from my computer. VLC should be able to use the subtitles accordingly (because everything works fine on the computer)

2)      What I did:

I downloaded VLC for my Amazon Fire but my computer was invisible. Then I shared all my hard drives, so everyone in the network could read AND write with full permission. Now my hard drive was showing in amazon fire and I had two options:
a) Using SMB (which I think is some kind of samba connection?)
b) Using UPNP what I was initially trying to do.

AND I tried turning it off and on again a lot of times! ;)

3)      The Problem:

Using SMB doesn’t work, cause every time I try to click on it, it asks me for an smb authentication, which should be my username and password. Problem is: I do not have a password on my computer anywhere. I even disabled in the control setting in the streaming options, that it should ask me for one. But it is still insisting on a password, telling me I can’t leave it empty. So, I tried to set up a new user Account with a password, but it still won’t work, because he tells me that it is wrong… (but of course I checked and it isn’t, works fine with other stuff)

Using UPNP does not require a password BUT it just won’t show the files I put in my Video folder. I thought, the problem could be the hard drive itself, so I moved my windows Video Folder to my D hard drive. Now VLC shows me TWO Video folders (although there is only this one, that I moved) and if I open it, I can see all the subfolders I made but NON of my files that I put in there. So, for example the YuGiOh Folder is there, but not a single episode. The last thing I tried is changing the Codex of the episodes cause I though this might be the problem (although VLC usually handles everything) but no matter what I changed, it stayed invisible.

4) Question:

Has anybody a solution to this? Like I said, I know that there are other options, like I got a HDMI cable from my computer to the TV and I could just set it as a monitor and so on, but I really want the VLC Fire TV streaming to work.
Thanks for everyone who read so far and I am happy for all the advice I get!

Greeting the_pwner
