Hi, so i have a 1tb smasung spinpoint momentus hdd that "died" on me in june 2015. well today i plugged it for lols to see if it would work again. it registered and came up in windows. i found but can not see any programs i had installed in my directories. it also takes a long time to show up and takes a long time to read the drive but whe i check drive manager, the status of the hdd says that its "healthy". any ideas how i can get it working again please.any help would be gratefully recieved as i need the drive to work again

thanks in advance

If you do not need any data from the drive, you can try just re-formatting the drive from disk management. (in windows 10, right click on start menu -> Disk Management)

If you want to recover data from it, you will need to use some recovery software. There are tons out there, along with recommendations on this forum so I wont suggest any right now.

When in doubt, re-format.

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of any free ones, as the ones I use at work are quite expensive, ($1000+) and will not name them since I don't support software downloads from questionable means. (I seriously doubt you are ready to drop that kind of cash)

Like I said, there are tons of recommendations on this forum already, just use the search bar at the top right.

When in doubt, re-format.

Send it do a data recovery service if you want the data. Your just hurting it buy trying it your self.

If you really want to, make a image with ddrescue, then make a copy of the image and try photorec, and recovura.

Yep(unless you compress it)

How much do you want the data? Send it to a data recovery service.
