I'm planning to build my first pc for Xmas... Here are the specs: i5 6500, gtx 1060 6gb Gigabyte Windforce, 1x8 ddr4, Asus h170m plus matx, 1tb 7.2k hdd, no ssd. I So some online psu wattage calculator told me I needed 250-300w, but if I calculate the wattage by myself (following some guides on YouTube) it's 600+w... Which wattage is the right one? And then which brand and serie of psu should I take? I don't want to spend too much money, but I don't want a shitty psu from an unknown brand neither...

A 1060 and i5 6500 under zero circumstances will use more than 200W ever. Don't worry about wattage too much, just look for a decent quality unit.

There's a couple things I'd do first, however. One is to get an i5 6400 and cheaper motherboard as well as an RX 480 so you can get a 120GB SSD in there. If I can promise you anything it's that getting an SSD later is awful. You either have to clone your OS (and that often goes wrong) onto your new drive and then wipe everything on the hard drive to use it as a storage drive, or throw this and that here and there to have everything where you want on each drive, or you do a total reinstall of your OS... etc etc etc. Just get an SSD now and thank me later.

For you a Corsair CX450M or Seasonic S12/M12 would be totally fine.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Man, I didn't ask for a configuration, I'm happy with this pc, but I'm still undecided if I should get an ssd... Maybe I'll do but that's not the problem. Anyway isn't a 450W psu a bit too little...? And I have heard that the CX serie is shit... Anyway thanks for the reply.

No. A quality 450w can power a setup with a GTX 1080. The CX450M would be a good choice for your build.

As for it being "shit". Most of the thing you heard about it has to do with the older version, and even then it was an issue that was overblown. The CX450M that had been recommended to you is based on a better build, more modern DC-DC design with a 5 year warranty, and I would too recommend it.

As someone who used to think that, then started racking up Chrome extensions and using RAMdisks - to each their own.

I have run out of 8GB RAM playing Overwatch more times than I'd care to admit and it's getting worse.
