X99 Sabertooth RED CPU LED

Qyoon

Hi

I am facing an issue wich is weird.

I am upgrading my gaming computer to an enthousiast one.

So i decided to change my I5 4690K for an I7 6800K

my Z97 Sabertooth for a X99 Sabertooth.

also changing ram for crucial blablabla 16Gb 2600MhzCL16

recieved my box this morning and mounted everything.

Problem is , pressing power button , pc turns on , fans ramping up. Then nothing.

Checking inside the case , CPU led is red , no post.

So i thought i bended motherboard pins... never happened to me before but well... first time to everything.

Removing cpu , checking the motherboard with a flashlight twice , no bended pins...

Mounting everything again with only 1 ram stick , not even a gpu. same thing...

Thinking about ... maybe the motherboard Bios is not up to date.

So i use an usb stick and the bios flash thing. ( renamed the bios correctly X99ST.CAP)

Bios flashed , power on again , still the same issue.

Any idea ?

I wish i could oc my body, during winter overheating would be great.

Is there a code showing at all?

Also, you need a GPU in order to POST with x99.  There are no iGPUs on the HWE or BWE CPUs.

I know i need a GPU ( there no igp on the cpu die , and no video connector on the mb) Just wanted to see if it the CPU led would still light up.

No code at all , no display on the mb itself but you can plug a smartphone to it and get information on the screen.

Anyway , it arrived today gone for RMA the same day... i wish EVGA board were findable at a good price in france... back on the core I5...

6800K is not supported out of the box on the Sabertooth.

You need to update the bios to the last version firstly before it will post.

So thats most likely your particular problem.

Now you are kinda lucky that you have an Asus X99 board which you could flash the bios without a supported cpu installed.

You could use the USB flashback utility.

Check the manual or Asus website for that.

If you have allready flashed the bios, and it still doesnt work.

Well then i guess you have either a dead board or cpu.

So i would suggest to call the shop you boaght your parts from.

My guess would be the cpu, but ofc it could be the board aswell.

Are you sure the process did complete?

Sometimes its a bit hard to determine wenn exactly its finnished.

And the process isnt really the fastest in the world.

Either way if you have allready flashed the bios, and it still doesnt work.

Did you connect the 8 pin cpu power properly?

I tried 2 different version , twice the second one.

Pretty sure it worked since i am used to it :

rename the bios .cap.

press 3 sec bios flash back button

Wait until it stops to blink.

Done...

Thats why it's super weird :/

I wish i could oc my body, during winter overheating would be great.

I connected both 8 AND 4 Pin  ( it's 8+4 on that board not only 8)

Anyway thanks for the answers i sent it back to RMA , they said 2 weeks , so i will wait with 1k € upgrade waiting in a box...

I wish i could oc my body, during winter overheating would be great.
