just got the 6600k

got the 6600k to replace my fx-8350 its a crazy how much better it is runs 10 to 15 degrees cooler less power draw went from 170 watts idle to less than 100 at idle the fan controller has the fans nearly off weird getting used to not having that noise im wondering what kind of overclock should i get out of it im using a z170-e motherboard and a Cooler Master Seidon 240M

I got 4.7Ghz from 1.39v (or was it 1.37? i dont remeber)

Though that last .1 Ghz required a lot more voltage than the more commonly achieved 4.6Ghz.

 

But in the end it all comes down to luck. You might not even get 4.1Ghz.

EDIT: Common rule: Dont go above 1.45 volt on skylake and ideally stay below 1.4.

have not done anything extesive but had it at 4.5 for a while temps at 39 to 40 fans at 60%

ok was wondering what was safe because the 32nm beast (fx-8350) went to almost 1.5 very power hungery

 

 

btw this is my first intel cpu since the core 2 quad q6600

Dont know if its because the smaller size (14nm) or to do with the architecture but 1,5v for skylake is not recommended. Stay below 1.4 ideally but dont go above 1.45.

ok thanks by chance know if there would be a bottleneck somewhere with the 6600k and a gtx 1060 6gb?

No. It might bottleneck in Battlefield 1 but the game is still in beta and even i7's have problems with that game.
