I recently built a nice mid ranged PC with an RX 480 and i5 6600K. Great, right? Not exactly. After doing lots of research beforehand I was under the impression that the RX 480 should be able to handle most games I threw at it with a smooth 60 FPS at 1080p, however i was mistaken. With small overclocks on both my cpu and gpu I still am averaging less than what I expected. I know most benchmarks are taken with a better processor but still is there anything that I can do to bump my FPS without settling for lower settings?

What games? Are you able to give us proper results, like run the in-game benchmark ect?

What settings are you running at? Some settings make minimal visual differences unless compared side by side but impact performance a ton such was 2xMSAA vs 4xMSAA.

Same as @DarkBlade2117 said what games? My gpu (r9 390) has similar performance and vanilla Fallout 4 only gets 44 most of the time with everything at max settings in the cluttered city at 1920 x 1080

Here is the thing: most reviewers will say "you can get MAX settings at 1080p and get 60 fps!" but leave out the fact that you'd get average of 60 which can mean many things: the game can stay at 40s and 50s most of the time and shoot up to 90 when you look at the ground or enter a small area and the average ends up being 60 but your experience is most definitively not smooth.

I can sympathize that you feel people misrepresented this card, I agree. But short of selling the system and getting a new one (and to get close (not even always max) to 1080p max settings at 60 FPS minimum you'd need an i7 and a 1070: far more money) the only thing you can do is just lower some settings to sustain a 60 fps minimum framerate so your games are always smooth looking.
