1060GTX 6GB or wait?

I only have two questions. Will a PCI-E 1.1 motherboard support a PCI-E 3.0 card?

And does it make sense to get a 1060 in February or March, or wait a couple of months for a 1160 or whatever it's going to be called?

I don't know what architecture Nvidia is going to release next or when or if they're going to release one at all. Maybe next year it's going to be same architecture but a bit improved.

The reason I asked the second question was because the 1060 was a big jump from the 960.

It will work, but I'm not sure if there will be a bottleneck.

Don't expect to see any 1060 replacement until 2018, so it will be fine to buy it in March.

It's time for some Christmas shopping, only a couple of months later. xD

I'm planning to finally get a new video card after many many years. I'm planning to get a GTX 1060 6GB. It's time to upgrade by now my ancient PC. It's an old AMD system.

It has the very first generation of Quad-Cores that AMD produced, yeah it's that ancient. Since it's that old I want to ask two questions.

First of all, my motherboard has PCI-E x16 1.1, will the video card even work in my system? I know that PCI-E 2.0 motherboards support 3.0 cards but don't know if 1.1 supports it. And yes I know that my processor is once again I use this word ancient, and because of that it will bottleneck the hell out of the video card. Unfortunately I can't afford a brand new system.

Second question, I won't be buying the card this Christmas, just like I said in my first phrase. I'll get it around February or March. So the questions becomes, should I wait for the next generation (don't really know what architecture is next) or just buy the 1060?

So the GTX1060 or GTX1160 (or whatever it's going to be called)?

In your situation I'd get a 1050 and use the other $150 for a used haswell cpu and mobo, maybe even an i3.

Why are you even bothering with a 1060 then? Your CPU might not even have the juice to handle a 750 Ti, let alone a 1060. I'd throw a 1050 at it and let it ride unless you do plan on upgrading the whole system, in which case a 1060 makes sense.

y not? The 480 is a bit more future proof bc of its somewhat better dx12 and vulcan support

Where I live the 1050 is about 15$ cheaper than a 1060. So that card is pointless for me. When the 1050 came out I wanted to get it but then saw the price of it.

Why is it that? The 480 has pretty much already caught up the 1060, it offers more vram and better performance in DX12 and Vulcan and will only get better as the drivers mature, the only reason not to go AMD is if you have a Gsync monitor

Bad experiences with AMD cards, not just personal but all of my friends that have AMD cards, have issues with them.

Well, i personally can say ive had bad experiences with brands like Logitech, 1Life, NOX, etc, but i suppose some users dont get those that oftenly eh :p. But nonetheless, asides from Logitech (dont want that much hate over me right x-X), the other two brands are a royal piece of s**t i say :p. But hey, its respectable that someone finally tells themselves sometimes that even the big players (the brands i mentioned are definetly not big players) are not an option for them i guess ehe.

I'm confused by the question. Are you expecting Nvidia to release new $250 cards in March?

It will work, but I'm not sure if there will be a bottleneck.

Don't expect to see any 1060 replacement until 2018, so it will be fine to buy it in March.
