Hey all,

I work freelance producing videos for people. My last upgrade to my storage system was a 1tb WD Black which is killer. Now, it's full (surprise!).

Eventually I would like to build a NAS for some video streaming but also as a place to backup footage to. The build I'm looking at doing is about $1k so it's a little off in the distance.

However, in preparation for that, I would like to add another drive to my computer to store completed projects and just serve as a backup for some of the projects.

So...

>record project

>Add raw files to both drives

>Edit files on WD Black

>Render (copy) completed files to both drives

>Delete raw footage from Black immediately, manage new drive as needed deleting old footage.

What would be a good drive to invest in now that I would also be able to add to a NAS later?

WD Green...? Red?

Thanks!
-Matt

The WD Red 8TB NAS drives are actually HGST drives, I would go with those.

Alright here's another question.

Could I run a VM and run FreeNAS and Windows Server side by side in order to use my proposed NAS as a rendering proxy with Adobe software and a file manager? :)
