GTX 1050 Ti vs GTX 1060 3GB

Freezanator
Go to solution Solved by MograineLefay,

The GTX 1060 will cockslap the 1050Ti.

I've decided to drop the GTX 1060 6GB from my original build plan. Now, 1050 Ti vs 1060 3GB? More VRAM or more compute power? I'll be playing at 768p for at least another 1 year till I upgrade to 1080p. Thanks! :)

RX480?? Freesync monitors are $200 cheaper than G-Sync, when you buy the monitor (assuming you have a 768p one)

Even with less VRAM? Where will the extra gigabyte of VRAM of the GTX 1050 Ti come in to outperform the GTX 1060 3GB? :)

I see you're in the Christmas mood with blue as always ^_^. So... where does the GTX 1050 Ti's extra GB of VRAM come in to outperform the GTX 1060 3GB? :)

more Vram does not equal better performance. the 1050ti uses a weaker gpu core than the gtx 1060 3gb, thus its alot slower. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_1050_Ti_Strix_OC/6.html

I'm currently using a 768p monitor and it doesn't even have Free Sync (its bloody old, but still works really well). Maxwell and Pascal GPUs have Fast Sync which works on any monitor, without any specific software or hardware requirements. :)

FreeSync probably destroys fast sync, and freesync monitors aren't more expensive than non freesync one, however it is all preference.

Some games have the option to make the game use less vram.

Probably. And I'm also not going to get a new monitor any time soon while I can still use my current one. So why spend the extra cash just to get Free Sync?

The RX 470 will cockslap the 1050ti as well.  It's close enough to the 1060 3gb to annoy it, but not degrade it.

OP, if you have PCI-E power, and you can install a real graphics card like a 1060, don't buy a 1050.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

Just checked now

GTA V at 1080p max settings MSAA x8

is using 4202 vram.

But it's too laggy anyways (I have 1060 6GB)

so it's not needed since you don't want max settings 1080p

I've decided to go with the GTX 1060 3GB. To be more precise, the Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce OC 3GB card. :)

The GPU will automatically scale the usage to fit into the VRAM by compression. That's how the GTX 1050 (non Ti) works in games which use high VRAM. :)

I'm just saying the 1 extra vram isn't that worth it.

and if you can, go for 1060 6GB

I clearly stated above that I dropped the GTX 1060 6GB from my original plan.

If you have a tight budget and you don't mind turning the graphics settings Down a little to still get 60fps the the 1050ti is a great choice but if you want to have no compromises 60fps experience at 1080p then the 1060 3gb version wipes the floor with the 1050ti. But at the end it is your choice I hope I helped out a bit.
