Something wrong with my headphone jack

Hi, I'm having some difficulty with the headphone jack. Every 3 seconds or so, for a brief moment, the volume increases. I know that it is the jack and not the headphones because I've tested with different headphones. I was wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before and ultimately if anyone knew of a good solution.

The headphone jack of what? It sounds like this is an issue on the software side.

It's not the headphone jack. It's an issue with your software/firmware.

It's on the PC, and please say that there are other solutions than reinstalling drivers, last time I did that I went days without audio on my computer.

which jack front of the case or on the back (on the I/O)?

 

If it is the front of the case headphone jack it could be a lose or faulty cable from the headphone header on the motherboard to the front I/O.

 

I'm having the same issue (faulty cable to the front panel which I'm replacing - playing sound from only one ear) however the back I/O jack is fine so it is not the motherboard.

 

If its the back. Check there is no dirt or dust by blowing out the headphone jack without getting anything into it!!!

 

Don't try and push anything into the jack to clean it.

 

Next check and see if the hardware is performing properly in hardware in control panel.
