Got in an argument with a friend about debit cards. Here is the question: Can companies see your age based off of a debit card? Like if you were to order something online could they see your age if you don't give it to them elsewhere? I say they can't but I figured I would ask.

Why would they care about your age? and "most of the time" you have to make a account to buy stuff and you put your age. I'm pretty sure they can't get your age through your credit card beacuse it's only name n numbers from your credit card not a driver's license. its like saying you went to Walmart used your debit card and was like hey cashier do you know my age now? :D

I guess it depends on the financial institution and system the card is registered in. There is an actual age verification system that does cross check to see if your age though I don't know if it works with debit cards.

I've bought pistol ammo online even though I'm under 21 so probably but no.

In Canada a PAL is required to purchase ammo and you can get one before your 18th birthday so that's not a good indicator north of the 49th.

@TubsAlwaysWinsAll they tend to do is require is that you have funds for the purchase. Now when it's shipped they may require ID to prove you are over the age of majority when you go to pick it up.

They can't.

Payment engines aren't able to request data about the card holder.

With the proper knowledge, anyone can set up an ilegitimate website with online payments to commit fraud, which is why your bank doesn't go around handing out your personal data.

Which companies?

They could do a hard or soft pull on your credit report, but thats something you'd have to sign for like a cell phone. If your card says student on it they could. They could also judge your age by your appearance, clothing and speach.
