CPU cooler backplate & standoffs snug, but wiggle room with mobo

Is it supposed to be like that?

H100i v2 cpu cooler

I tried all the standoffs, some obviously don't fit, but the ones that do, there are 2 sets of 4 that are almost identical with only slight variance in threading, but both sets work, and both leave wiggle room between the back plate and the motherboard, even when the standoffs are snugly fastened to the backplate.

A little flex is fine. When you thread the standoffs, go left until you feel a click and then tighten.

Tightening the standoffs led to them just stopping to become snugly tightened, but there was no click. There's very clear wiggle room, I can push on the standoffs and pull on them and it alternates between them tapping against the mobo and the backplate tapping against it, but the backplate and pulloffs are actually snuggly tightened together. I can't go any farther without forcing things too far.

Just stop then. A little flex is alright and shouldn't cause alarm so long you have all 6 (Micro ATX) or 9 (ATX) standoffs in place.

This motherboard had 9 positions for the ATX but the center one was a premounted standoff that I just placed the board on then mounted the 8 standoffs. The CPU cooler has its own standoffs, 4 of them. Those 4 are the ones that are loose but yeah the main mobo standoffs are secure.

Have you followed the instructions for the cooler to the letter?

Are you using the LGA115X or 2011 screws?

LGA115x. The 2011 has one side that's shorter and thicker. The 115x has both sides that are identical. 3 sets came with the unit. Only 1 set fits.

Can you tighten the bolts down a bit more?

You can also call Corsair while getting the washers.

mobo mannies using different thicknesses of PCB depending on how cheap they have to get for a profit.

Hmmm I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago when I installed mine. Putting on the cpu block stopped any wiggling I had.

The thumb screws for the block only go up to a certain point on the standoffs, unable to tighten the gap that occurs beyond that as a result of the tightened standoffs and backplate still having a gap.
