I found a good deal on Corsair H100i v2 and want to purchase 2 additional fans for them. Corsair SP120. so now, quiet/performance edition twin pack? quiet is 10€ more expensive. but, can't i buy performance edition and put them to sth like 1000rpm and be like quiet?

I don't know the details of these particular fans, but in general:

A performance fan at a fraction of its rated speed will generally not be as silent or perform as well as a silent fan running at its rated speed. They are simply not optimised for it. Fans running below their max speed sometimes suffer from quiet clicking noises, rattles, and the like. You'll also not have as big a range to control them in, as they will be operating much closer to their minimum operating voltage.

All of that said, sometimes higher-RPM fans surprise us by being incredibly well-behaved at lower speeds, and very rarely they'll even outperform purpose-built silent fans, sometimes even from the same manufacturer. The only way to know for sure is to find a review comparing these specific fans for your specific purpose.

TL;DR:

  • For general use, you'll probably be good with either set of fans, so you can save the ten bucks.
  • If you're looking to make your computer generally silent but sometimes need the extra cooling
  • performance, go for the performance pack. It'll be able to provide cooling that the silent pack can.
  • If you just want a quiet computer, go for the quiet pack. More than likely, it'll give you a better cooling performance for the noise it makes.

First, these are not PWM fans. They run at one speed as far as I know (I have a box full of them because I wasnt happy with them) The performance edition has a cable that halves the voltage, which is then considered the quiet mode.

Corsair does make PWM fans, but I gradually ended up going with Noctua fans when the corsairs started squeaking after a year.

You do not need PWM to control fans. Even 3-pin fans can have their speed changed. Difference is, PWM fans do it by RPM numbers, non-PWM do it by voltage.

They are pwm... But noctua ppc with white chromax to fit my build will cost much more..

Performance Editions are loud and not worth getting. They are a bit louder than QE's at the same rpm.

For what reason are you buying additional fans?
