Motherboard thinks CPU is at 100c

Sreno1

I recently rebuilt my system into the Crystal 460x case, the case looks amazing but the CPU cooler is spinning at 3000+ RPM. It is the intel stock cooler so it is extremely loud.

I checked the bios and the motherboard cpu sensor say's it is at 100c, but the CPU is under no load and Advanced System Care 10 says that it is at a cool 27c.

What could be going wrong to make the cooler spin so fast?

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170-XP-SLI

CPU: i5-6500 (I know it's not an unlocked CPU, didn't know what I was doing when I built the system).

i5-6600k (4.6) | Dark Rock 3 | MSI GAMING X 1060 6GB | 8GB DDR4 | 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD | Crystal 460x

 | Acer GN246HL 1080p 24" 144hz & Acer G246HL 1080p 24" 60hz |

Since the only change was a case swap, I think it's worth checking that the mobo isn't shorting on the case like from an unneeded standoff that needs to be removed.

CPU: AMD Sempron 2400+ / MOBO: Abit NF7-S2G / GPU: WinFast A180BT 64MB / RAM: Mushkin DDR333 256MBx2 / HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 120GB

unless your ambient is like 15deg C that temp can't be possible

I kept the CPU, cooler, and mobo together when swapping.

It's been reading that cool in both cases.

what's your room temperature? the CPU's temp cannot be lower than that - it's physically impossible air cooled

quick question: have you messed with the BCLK clock?! from what I recall that will mess with a lot of things, including temp reading

27 C isn't that low, ambient is about 65-70 F in my room. I haven't messed with BCLK oc.

I don't really care about the motherboard saying my CPU is at 100 C, I just want the cooler to not be as loud.

that explains it

use HWinfo: https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php - look at the individual core temps and the package temp

do they read 100deg ?!

https://gyazo.com/64cf18325c0cebf0880af14fe310577d

So my system care software is inaccurate, but HWinfo still show's respectable temps for the CPU.
