"Not a fixed MBR disk" after format

So I reinstalled windows 7 ultimate 64 bit yesterday, and when i tried to make my HDD active, It wont let me. I tried doing it through the disk manager and through the command prompt. I have reinstalled ~4 times in 2 days trying to activate windows and making my disk active. Any way i can get my disk active without formatting again?

Edit: "Not  a fixed MBR disk" is the error message i get.

I think you may have to format.

I have formatted 3 times and kept getting the same error.

So the OS is installed on the HDD?

Wait so you're trying to make a mounted HDD partition active, while in the disk manager?

I am assuming you have another HDD running Windows (so you can run Windows>Disk Manager), and you're trying to activate it?

No im using the HDD i want to make active. I just cant make it active

So you've never successfully installed the OS on the HDD before?

I have im running windows off of it right now. it just cant be marked as active and be activated.

I am guessing you've tried the top 2 options in this link. Have you tried the 3rd?

Sounds like windows repair isn't seeing your HDD either....

might be time to do a format and re-install of windows.....try it this way, make a 90gb partition for windows install on to that, then if windows boots, create a partition with the rest of the drive, don't fuck about with making the partition active, you don't need to do that.
