Hi,

I have a Raspberry PI 3 model B, and want to upgrade its ram so I could run a game server. Since you can't upgrade the 1GB of ram in LPDDR2, the next best option is usb ram. The Raspberry PI only has soppurt for USB 2.0, and I can't find anywhere a list of fastest USB 2.0 drives. Does anyone know some fast USB 2.0 drives? USB 2.0's max speeds are 60 MB/s, and I don't need anything larger compacity that 32 GB.

Thanks!:D

Why run a game server on that? It has PLENTY of more uses because of its size but this is something I am confused on.

Also, just get a USB 3.0 port, as it is backwards compatible and is capable of maxing out that speed with ease.

It is said that an Italian dies every time Spaghetti is broken.

That's why I break mine twice.

USB 2.0 is half duplex and in addition to that, due to various protocol constraints, you won't be able to achieve more than 280 mbps (or about 35 MB/s) in either direction.  The 480 mbps is the maximum bandwidth available with overhead (the stuff around the actual packets of data actually sent between devices)

USB 3.0 is full duplex and has less limitations.

My advice would be to simply give up and find some old used computer (or buy one for 20-50$) and create the server on that hardware. Even an old core 2 duo or older would run around that raspberri pi 3

Here's some nice benchmarks .. you can see even an old Core2Duo e8600 that you can buy on eBay for around 20$ is about 10-15x faster than a pi.
