I have a Define XL R2 and i'm curious as to which cooler would be best for the case. It doesn't have the best airflow in the world and it has a slight positive pressure inside, so I imagine having a reference cooler would be the best as it would in take cool air and exhaust the hot air out the back rather than into the case. But does having something like a Twin Frozr or a DCu2, where it exhausts the hot air into the case, really effect the cooling for the GPU?

I'm not really looking to liquid cool my system. Not really in my budget.

Most likely just pick the one you want most. The temperatures shouldn't be too much different.

So its probably around 1-2 degree of difference from going one or the other? Alright, cool.

from the first comment i dont really understnad anymore but..

for cpu - the cheap hyper 212 evo is a nice lil air cooler.

for the gpu - any non reference should be good as the the exhausted air into the case shouldnt be toooooo bad

just try to pick the best looking and best performance gpu cooler you can find thats in your price range

i notice you have a 5850, id recommend just buying a whole new gpu then just a gpu cooler

that way you can go with gigabytes windforce or msi twin frozer(like you mentioned as well as the dcu2) or other brands like sapphire or evga depending if your going with nvidia or amd

I think the first guy was talking about removing the pump from the H80i and crating your own liquid cooling system from there, but i dont really understand either.

My HD 5850 is showing its age now a days. I was just a little worried that my case would substantially hold back the cooling potential of my GPU because of the limited airflow.

That looks cool and weird at the same time haha. Did you need to get a special bracket for the GPU socket? How are you monitoring your pump and fans btw? Do you just have it running at a fixed speed at all times?

This isn't mine, But i assume you make a custom bracket. Though I've heard some people are making fabricated ones. Also pump and fans I assume are controlled via the motherboard.

Im just a little curious because i assume the motherboard cant tell how hot the GPU is, so it wont be able to throttle the pump and fans correctly meaning they need to be on a static speed.

dissipating GPU air into your case isn't a problem. I have a GTX 770 in my Define R4 and when i am gaming i usually switch the manual fan controller to 7V or 12V. I have 2 fans at the front and 1 in the back. The air that is moved out by that rear fan is usually slightly warmer than my hand.

who cares...

What is your exact fan layout? "Not the best airflow in the world" is a relative perception.

Sorry for the late response. Right now i have 3 Intake fans and 1 Exhaust. 2 Front intake fans, but they're static pressure fans because i have the hard drive cages there. 1 Bottom mounted intake fan that is pretty much facing towards my GPU. 1 Rear where it normally is on the case. My intake fans on the front are SP120 quiet editions and the 2 other ones are stock fans for fractal.

Are you using the stock fans or did you switch them out?

You should. move the bottom itake to the top as exhaust, then you will have good airflow that can cool any GPU.

I put both of the stock fans in the front and bought and extra Corsair AF 140 quiet edition for the back. The stock fans are good, compared to other manufacturer's stock fans.

An open air design is almost always better than blower.
