Screen goes black during gaming?

Okay, so this is quite weird, and it's only been happening in the last two or so months. More often lately than not. Whenever I'm gaming (usually in BF1/4 or FH3) my PC seems to crash, but doesn't. What actually happens is the screens go black, and my GPU fans ramp up to 100. I'm unable to do anything but hard restart. It doesn't do it when rendering video, or playing GTA V. I thought maybe it was a power delivery issue, so I checked all the cables, and finally backed my overclock of 4.4ghz off, to stock settings. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Specs are in my sig.

Are you overclocking your GPU? I use MSI Afterburner and MANY TIMES I found that MSI afterburner was the reason of my assumed GPU failures when in fact nothing is wrong with my GPU or any hardware components.

Reinstall overclocking software if that is the case.

I actually don't have any overclocks going, but I'll definitely check to make sure afterburner isn't trying anything stupid.

what is your power supply rated at if only at peak it might mean its drawing too much power

It's a 600w power supply. Never had an issue with it before. Kinda wondering if it's not the anniversary update that's killing me.

I'll have to check. Usually under 80. But it only goes to 100% when the screens go black. Dying GPU?

Nope. Usually parts are less likely to die. I think it's a software issue first before anything else....especially since you've used it for a while and not like you just received it out of the box.

I'm still using my 660TI PE OC and I've overclocked that thing since 3 years ago with voltage, clock speed and memory overclock. I've also used my i5-3570k with overclocking since I bought it 3 years ago. They haven't died on me and I'm trying my best to kill them... ofc course in a natural use case... not deliberately trying to break them.

Precisely why I wonder if it's the Anniversary update that is messing with it. I have a spare SSD with a Win 8 image on it. I might try that.

Anniversary update as in Windows 10 Redstone update? I turned off Windows Update the moment I had it installed fresh. I hate having it screw around with me cause it's messed me over times in the past...

That big update they started rolling out months ago. I only got it so that I could play Forza Horizon 3.
