I used to be able to use my mouse as a music controller

A long while ago I used my mouse like normal. The buttons on the side were forward and backward on my browser and file explorer, the tilt of my mouse wheel controller side scrolling. Typical functionality. Then one day for no discernible reason my side buttons controlled Spotify (I never tried any other program) The forward back buttons controlled next song last song, the sensitivity button was pause play (and did not control the sensitivity of the mouse anymore) wheel tilt was volume up and down. Now, it's back to normal.

 

I really liked this mode, but I also like the regular mode too. Does anyone know anything about this? Can I switch modes? Also my mouse is nothing special a $15 Gear Head mouse.
