Some Audio (Microphone) recommendations needed

Hey guys,

I see everyone recommend the use of Headphone + Standalone microphone rather than a headset, and happily recommend a pair such as HD558's, but how about recommendation of microphones? Nothing too expensive though.

I'm also looking at an external DAC, the Fiio E17 looks really nice, mainly so I can have it sit there and I can simply switch between PC/Console at a press of a button (this is going to be rather important for me). Is this a product this board would happily recommend?

If someone would like to make recommendations as to headphones, my price range is around the cost of HD558/ATH-M50, that would also be welcome. Also, comfort is high priority :)

Because someone at some point will say it. COP's and other Beyerdynamic headphones are solid options for you.

Just watched a review. Looks quite nice. He recommended some burn-in though, which is something I've never come across. Mind you, I haven't tested an extensive list of headphones. Will definitely consider these. In one of his comments though he did recommend the AT M50's as one of his top 5.

He also linked the DAC I'm looking at, so I feel pretty confident about this decision.

I guess in an effort to make things easier for you down the road I would recommend focusing more on the amp and less on the dac since your headphones make use of one and not the other. Mainly because nothing really ever makes use of a nice dac

For a Mic - $1.28 AUD ($1.50 NZD) ebay boom mic... generic copy and paste: zalman clip on, blue snowball/yeti, modmic (if you can find it). They all work fine if you're just gaming/chatting. Quality is still better than most headset mics I've found.

Yeah I do realise the lack of utilization of a higher end DAC, hence not throwing too much money at it. The main reason I want that particular one is so I can leave it plugged into my PC and Console and only have to press a button to switch between the two. A similar product would be the Mixamp Pro by Astro Gaming.

Heh I have seen this and laughed quite a bit. I'd probably buy a second cable for the headphones itself just so I can take them to the labs at Uni and not look like a complete dick with some hacked boom mic on my headphones :P

Is it possible to get the soft padding like on the DT770 Pro 250 rather than the leather? The leather looks like it'd push them into my head quite a lot :/

The velour pads from the DT series can be put on the COP, but I'm pretty sure the foam inside is the same for both kinds of pads - they'll form to your head over time.
