Depends on your resolution. There really isn't a "best", it just depends on whether you want a locking connector or something.

I prefer DVI since it's a more rugged connector. Displayport is my second favourite as it supports higher resolutions.

DVI is fine. If you already have an HDMI cable, great! But don't buy one just for this purpose.

I wouldn't say that DP/DVI is the best, as HDMI is getting support for 4K, so you can use display port or HDMI for your monitors, both HDMI and DP also have audio

i notice the monitor connected via HDMI has less colour or some things show up differently its not really noticeable unless you are looking for it.

I like DVI cuz you can screw it to place and this makes it a big enough plus for me :D

depends on what resolution you want and if you need to pass sound as well

If you want HDMI, i recommend a cheapy, such as this.

I always thought DVI could support higher resolutions / had more bandwidth.

Don't quote me because I don't even remember where I saw or heard that.

I'm not sure about the latest HDMI cables, but when I got my ones in 2008, they maxed at 60hz, whereas dvi easily gets 144hz/120hz.
