i never liked their coffee and their food all tastes the same. they used to have real bakers wearing their whites way back when but now everything comes in frozen and its reheated by a minimum wage worker. not to mention you have to repeat your order multiple times to the cashier. i walked by one today and the selection was piss poor, its a recent pop up and had like 1/4 the shelf space as a good tims. i tried their pork sandwich and it tasted bland, that is the consequence of frozen food as it loses its flavor.

Not sure where you are but all the Tim's here are great other than the one in East Hill which is slower than molasses. I'll agree I miss the days of real baked goods but in some cities like mine the only other drive thru option is Starbucks (and one Second Cup) and I can get 3 larges at Tim's for the cost of what I like at there. I think that's the big thing most places. Cost and availability.

Bought myself a nice french press and found a market downtown bought my beans and enjoy the home brew now.

@brenan999 the food (always frozen, maybe even the tomato, lettuce and condiments ;) ) and coffee (probably comes in frozen too  ;) ) is all the same no matter where you go, the only variable is the service you get, so the workers. small town shit town out in the sticks there are high school students working which i like better then the foreign workers or others. the franchise owners can take advantage of them because they are on the cusp of winning the citizenship lottery.

Mind you my experience is limited to only Vancouver and it's metro area but I think it's simple: Canadians feel guilty about loving Starbucks so much that they prop up Tim Horton's. Specially on a word of mouth level. But judging from the amount of Starbucks present on some areas (seriously right on opposite corners on downtown wtf) I say they're saying they love Tim but ultimately spend way more on Starbucks, it's just not as good to admit you like something that comes from those Filthy Fucking Americans at *spits* Seattle!

I imagine that Starbucks is more popular in Vancouver because of how close they are to Seattle - but Tim Hortons is literally everywhere. Even in small towns, etc.

It's hit or miss - some things are good, and it's cheaper. I personally don't like Starbucks at all (except for their Lemon Loaf).

I frequented both (and Beans around the world, and even smaller one-off hippie places on Commercial Dr.) and there's things to like on both. Most people that "hate" starbucks usually have weird expectations i.e. you "hate" their coffee but order the thing with the most fucking sugar and milk on the menu instead of something nice withuot all that crap.

Tim's coffee was ok too and the timbits were nice but not "omg this is better than crack!" nice, just good donuts but nothing super special.

So I'd take a simple capuccino with an extra shot of expresso and walk that shit over to Tim for the bits, seems like a nice deal all around for me.

If you ever venture into Ontario, go ahead and check out Williams Coffee Pub - it's like the perfect compromise between StarBucks and Tim Hortons.

I'll put it on my to do cause I would like to visit east coast Canada. Vancouver is nice but as a Mexican, I rarely get to see snow so I'll go east next time.

vancouver is not really a tourist destination but when you factor in black comb and whistler and a few select vancouver destinations on your way to vancouver island then its worth visiting of course you need to hit up the interior of the province to. you could even take a quick multi day train ride to toronto otherwise the drive is horrendous and taking the bus is even worse. i want to visit the east coast myself but the welcoming and cheerful newfie accents of those small provinces along with the snub nosed quebecois are a different flavor all together. i recently was in a group where we had a quebecois student and i couldnt understand a word that man said and luckily he had nothing to offer. i think tims is trying to copy starbucks having smaller shitty stores closer together
