Gtx 1070. FPS Help!

Andrew91

Hey Guys,

I'm running on:

i5-4590, 3.3ghz

8gb, ddr3, 1600mhz, c10

Asus gtx 1070 (previously gtx 960)

Asrock h97 pro 4

Windows 8.1 Pro

Game intended : Overwatch

The Issue:

On the techspot site, 1080p, ultra settings, fps=200+

My rig, on low settings 110-130 fps and minor spikes, not smooth.

Whats weird is when i'm on training mode or 1v1, my fps can go 250-300fps.

Stuff I've attempted:

1) Ensured overwatch is on optimum settings (e.g. rendering 100%, 1080p resolution, etc.) and nvidia physcX set to gpu or auto.

2) Ensured motherboard drivers are up to date

3) Attempted backdated clean installation of nvdia drivers, non of the versions seem to help.

4) Used throttlestop on my processor.

5) temperatures on cpu and gpu are low (i.e. 50 degrees celcius, etc.)

Help.. please:

1) Should I just add another 8gb ram? (The same ram model) or change to a c8 ram?

2) Change to windows 10?

3) Change my motherboard to cater for a faster ram.

4) Get an i7-4790k @ 4.0ghz, if yes, do I need more ram?

5) Get a whole new rig?

6) Any other options/solutions?

Please and thank you in advance :)!

Disable Windows Indexing

Disable Windowa Defender

those things eat a lot of resources

And yes, definitely buy another 8GB of RAM. The amount you have is kinda low for gaming.

i7 4790K || R9 290X + R9 290 || 16GB G.Skill TridentX 1866 || Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5 || Crucial MX100 256GB || WD Caviar Blue 1TB

You could get a new rig, which would fix the problem lol. But you don't have to, I think you need more ram and disable windows indexing. Maybe if you want upgrade the process to a i7 or a skylake 6600k

1. If you want to.

2. Not unless you want to.

3. I wouldn't recommend that. Faster RAM does not mean more frames.

4. Not unless your CPU is at 100% all the time, if it is then sure.

5. That seems expensively pointless.

6. Check your temps on your GPU, it may be thermally throttling, update your drivers, etc.

It would add like 5 fps.

I can't exactly think of an issue on top of my head, but by looking at the RAM, 1600 Mhz is kinda... slow? I could suggest you to get more ram with faster speed. For one thing, what settings do you have for OW? Completely maxed out? AA?

Is it? There are cases where the gain from upgrading is nil. In these cases it's just a pointless waste of money.

newer =/= better

A 4 year old i7-3700K paired with a 1080 beats a brand new i5-6600 with a 1070 any time of the day.

I just used the presets in overwatch, ultra which had maxed almost everything, I have even tried low settings, and the fps goes from 90-160fps.

Would chucking in another identical ram to make it 16gb help?

Check the RAM usage. And Tell me how many RAM is being used with windows itself and OW.
