I recently picked up the game "Overwatch" by Blizzard, only to find out that this game loves to make my computer BSOD every couple of hours while playing.  Apparently this is an extremely widespread issue and it is Blizzard's sub-par optimization that causes this.

I am writing this thread to rule out the possibility that anything on my PC may actually be causing the problem. The only thing i can comprehend to be the problem would be that i have overclocked my i7-4790k to 4.6ghz on 1.235 volts exactly.  I stress tested this for about 45 minutes with no crashing, and given that Overwatch does not use anywhere close to 100% of my CPU i cannot logically say that this is the problem.\

Temperatures are also good, my 980ti runs at just shy of 74 degrees when at 100% usage, CPU runs at about mid to low 50's.  My RAM consists of two sticks of Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz DDR3. Fairly certain that these sticks have a CAS of 11, but i am not 100% sure, neither am i sure that this will prove significant.

The game uses about 6.5 out of my 8gb of ram just by itself and my hypothesis is that my computer is BSODing due to the game taking more ram than my pc has.

Let me know what you think!

Help is much appreciated, -Dr_Pleeper.

Try if it happens on stock clocks or bump up the voltage and see. Im pretty sure that it is ur overclock

Sounds like you should buy more RAM then.

Just because a game does not use all of your CPU, does not mean that is the problem.

I OC'ed my 6800K to 4.5Ghz, and stress-tested fine.

But in a real world scenario, doing the skyrim 1000 cheese test, i BSOD every time.

Try removing your overclock, as bad overclocks are the number on cause of BSOD

I will be buying more ram shortly as i need it for multiple other tasks.  Ark Survival Evolved was played for 8 hours straight using my current overclock, i forgot to put this in my original thread.  Would the overclock still possibly be the cause of the issue?

The only way to found out is to try stock clocks.

Only way to know is by trying the game with your CPU at stock clocks. I haven't had any issues with crashing since I got the game so I've never really looked into the issue. I have a friend with a 1070 who said the game seemed to get weird artifacts when he overclocked his GPU, but that's the extent of my hearing of such an issue with this game.

I bumped up the voltage from 1.235 to 1.245 and im going to try playing for a couple of hours and see if it still BSOD's.  I'm not entirely sure how to set the cpu back to stock clocks.

How do i set it back to the stock clock speed?

I know im supposed to just put the voltage back on "Auto" when the stock clock speeds are achieved.

Just put the voltage to auto and the core ratio to auto

Okay I did, thank you! I've been running my cpu for a little over a year on 4.6 and 1.235v, will this have had any performance degradation?
