Hey guys. So long story short, my sister is in the middle of a nasty divorce. Anyway I had to pull the data off the desktop that she had to leave him. We managed to get the data. But her Samsung Story drive was not up to the challenge. The computer in question could see the drive. I could see it was connected via Device Manger and the Devices and Printers section of the Settings. Windows 10 BTW. Under the disk manager it shows the drive with its 4 partions. Have no clue why there are 4 partions. The drive gets no letter from Windows and although it shows the partions as healthy, it does not display any file system type. Where the internal hard drive shows its NTFS.

Any thoughts? Is the file system corrupt? If so, is the data lost. The only option I get when I right click on the drive in the disk manager is delete volume. When I get an opportunity I want to see If I can recover anything. My guess is the file system some how got corrupted or the drive could be failing. All I know is the drive spins up.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

The disk (and partitions) have most likely no drive letter. This sometimes happens when installing new disks, and windows just gives you the finger. I don't know how to fix this in windows 10, but I am sure google can tell you how to assign an drive letter.

It does. That option is grayed out. Not sure why. The only option I have is to delete volume.

Was this samsung (seagate) story station previously connected to a mac, or a linux machine?

Nope. Just a Windows 7 machine. Then she updated to Windows 10.

Just gave my sister to cold hard truth. Any body know how much drive savers will charge to recover the data? My idiot sister has important family photos on the drive and didnt have they any where else. Because shes an idiot. Me on the other hand I have stuff thats important on my hard disk and on my one drive or drop box. You have to keep stuff in like 10 places. But she doesn't listen.

Any one used Seagate's recovery software? I know I can download a trial for free and its $99 for a licensee if I want to recover data. But any one actually use it?

I need to give my sister the talk about how all storage drives WILL fail. I need to teach her the 3-2-1 back up strategy.
