Can I use a dual link DVI D Cord to plug into a Dual link DVI I connector on my gpu. Can I remove the Middle pins in the other end of the cord to fit into a single link DVI monitor.

my monitor is an HP s2031 I don't remember what kind of DVI D it is I know it's DVID for sure though

Yes, you can use a DVI-D cable in a DVI-I slot. You would have to remove the extra pins on a DVI-I cable to fit in a DVI-D slot, though.

As for single link, it's pretty rare for a monitor to have a single link connector without at least empty slots for a dual link cable. I'm looking through the spec sheet to check what the port is.

EDIT: The port has room for a DL DVI-D cable, so you're fine.

User manual confirms it:

Yes, DVI-D is a subset of DVI-I

Yes, but I don't see why you should. Most connectors are dual link for the reason of compatibility, even if the device doesn't need it.
