Hi everyone! As this is my first post here's a bit about me: My name's Billy, I'm 23 years old and I'm a Graphic Designer from the United Kingdom. Avid LTT watcher, subscribed for years and never really got into the forums side of things. Blah, blah, blah. Nobody cares, I know, just being courteous as it's my first post... Anyway!

I've got about £1000 or so to spend on a new gaming rig. My main focus is for gaming at 1080p 60fps and also to be able to record gamplay and my sh*t face as I'm a bit of a start-up let's play YouTuber sort of guy. [Redacted]

Now, I am quite technically minded and have been into PC gaming for may years - but, alas, I've never actually BUILT one - and I know the bet value comes from building a PC (and, I'm kinda curious, want to know what to do and have the knowledge under my belt)

Naturally, as a designer, I want a rig that LOOKS good as well as performs well.

If anyone could point me in the direction of some recommended parts (anything and everything) within the £1000 (1400USD ish) price range that would be awesome. Please note that this has to include all peripherals and a monitor, as I've only ever had laptops... (I know, terrible, right? - I've currently got a Gigabyte P34W V3 - but it holds it's own)

I could also do with some links to some great videos (LTT or not, I don't mind) on where to start with building my PC. I've had a bit of experience replacing parts in work computers (replaced a power supply not long ago because it decided to literally blow up) but I'm hopefully wanting to go all out and build from scratch - and as the title says - I'm a serious n00b on this front.

If you've read this far - thank you! I'd appreciate any and all help and recommendations you have.

Any preferred size (ATX, mATX, ITX) and colour scheme?

I unfortunately have no idea what sizes those are, but I will go and look them up... watch out for the edit.

I really don't care on a colour scheme, just as long as it all at least sort of matches and looks good.

EDIT: no preference on size - anything is fine!

If you can afford it, get a 1070 rather than the 1060. I couldnt find a way to keep the color theme and CPU with a 1070 though.

I think you may have trouble playing all modern games at 60 FPS while recording the game AND recording you at the same time all for 1000 EDIT: pounds.... Most youtube gamers have a freaking beast of a computer for this reason.

The ATX/mATX/ITX question is simply the size of the motherboard. Physical size. A larger size will give you more ports/expansion slots, a smaller size will result in a smaller... computer.

For your Youtube needs you would probably be better off with a 6th gen Intel CPU with at least 4 cores. I would recommend the i5 6500 (188 pounds, Amazon). It offers decent clock speed for gaming and 4 cores for rendering vids. For the 60 FPS/ 1080p you would be happy with a Gtx 1060 ASUS TURBO-GTX1060-6G 6 GB Graphics Card - Black

(239 at amzazon). For the case i would get the Corsair spec Alpha. This case is beast looking and has a timless design anyone would like (79 pounds at amazon) . Hope i could help!!!

Yeah, I 'll need the £1000 to include a 1080p monitor, mouse, keyboard and OS.

Just looking for something to handle 60fps AAA games with recording, too. I don't mind bringing the graphics settings down a little bit to accommodate this.

I essentially have this PC except I have a better Mobo and CPU cooler/more storage. I can't run games completely at ultra as it is, let alone running multiple other programs to record gameplay among other things.

You need a capture card if you want good video capturing. You need to factor that into your price.

I don't know what peripherals you'll like, and you can get the OS from /r/microsoftsoftwareswap for like £30-40.

I know it's a locked chip with an aftermarket heatsink and Z170 motherboard, but A: it brings the cost down and B: you can throw an i5-7600k in there in the future.

The RX 480 will be completely fine for a build to play 1080p like this.

Best i could, if the 50$ over is an issue, you can downgrade the processor to a 6500 or 6400, and then upgrade to kaby lake later.

That looks great - it's actually very very similar to what I would have picked myself from looking at advice over the past couple days. I thought the RX480 would be great, too - but I've been told the GTX 1060 is meant to be much better for the same sort of money? I don't know - I appreciate the long, thought out post, though!

As for the peripherals, I don't really care - just as long as they're functional and won't fall apart in 100 clicks. That monitor is perfect, though!

As far as I've done so far, software has been fine for capturing gameplay, I assume a capture card just makes this easier? Or are you confusing this with console gaming capture?

It's a bit better in DX11 games but in DX12/Vulkan games, the 480 can match and surpass the 1060. Also, I've added a mouse and keyboard combo to the list. It's quite cheap, but should fall under the 'good enough' category: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fXWfFd

You don't need a capture card unless you want your streams/videos to be 11/10 in terms of quality. Most of the time, OBS is completely fine (or any similar program).

give these parts a look.  Tough to do a build like this for the budget.  But if you could spring for it, I'd get a z-series board to upgrade to unlocked processor later on down the road.  Preferably an i7 for the hyperthreading to help with your video rendering.  But for gaming, this rig will do just fine.  I'm not sure what you prefer as far as peripherals, but I included things i've personally owned in the past that have worked great.  Couldn't find a price for the mouse though,  Its about $50 here in the US.

I wouldn't worry about this. There is overhead to capturing gameplay, but unless you are streaming its not much of a concern. The idea that the guy above was referring to is called a capture PC. Essentially, you use a second, cheaper pc with a capture card to record and stream gameplay. While this is useful, its far from necessary. A gtx 1060 and a 6500+ will easily power through recording, and you will be able to max every game out.

OBS is more than proficient; it will be great regardless of sub count. IMO its the best capture software on the market, and the open source part is a huge benefit.

Fair enough! is it bad that I actually love the look of the standard 480? If I'm gonna get one of those I'd want it to look like this.

I'd probably be looking at getting a capture card in the near future to get my videos up to scratch.
