Ever since Sony released their hardware specifications I've seen several articles and videos about people getting similar pc hardware and claiming that it can do close to what a ps4 could, NO IT CANT.

Developers optimize there games for the specific hardware of the consoles because the hardware is exactly the same on every console.

This doesn't happen for computers because there's so many different possible hardware configurations and they have to make the game run on just about all of them, which really limits the possibilities for optimization. It pains me to admit that this is why Macs seem to work so well.

I can understand it might be abit of fun for an enthusiast with enough money, but its still not going to be the same as a ps4.

All just my thoughts, I could be wrong, what do you guys think?

Oh and heres just some of what im talking about:

Your right, with equivalent specs a PC is probably going to cost more and under perform against a console (when they are 1st release) due to the optimization your talking about. Sony + Microsoft take a loss on the console hardware & make it up other ways, it's mass produced to a set spec, etc so of course their cheaper. BUT. In a couple years, when the PS4 & new Xbox still have the same specs as they do when they get released, the cost of a similarly spec'd system will be less. Games are significantly cheaper on PC, their always on sale so you save money that way. There's no subscription fee to play games online. And a PC is a PC, meaning you can do everything a PC can do, most of which a PS or Xbox can't do. So that has to be factored in. And if like Slick has been saying on the Livestream, that Devs (at least some) will start with the PC then port to console things might be a bit different to how they are now. Yadayadayda /rant PC FTW etc

I agree, It seems pointless. Aside from every system being exactly the same I remember hearing something about how ps4 developers have hardware level access or something instead of going through directx like pc games. Some of the ps4 games I have seen gameplay of like watch dogs and killzone 4 have some pretty impressive graphics. Although I guess you have to remember everything is running at only 30fps on consoles. It still blows my mind how apparently the ps4 gpu is only capable of like 2 teraflops processing power or something and a 7970 has 3.8 which means by the time the ps4 is released the next generation of pc cards are going to be even further ahead hardware wise.

Honestly I think people just do this to get hits, I sighed so hard when I saw elrics ps4 video lol.

The APU like Processor/GPU is unlikely going to be the same as any of the current APU's on the market. I would say it will be on a larger custom die with slightly different architecture. I would say that the GPU will be more powerful than what is available in current APU's. even though it shares x86 instruction set its still going to be pretty far away from PC's on the hardware side. As well as their secondary "Processing unit" to deal with background processing. If they use this right we could potentially see some amazing stuff. They're using fast enough memory for the integrated GPU to use. Lets hope they can keep the latency down. :) I'm interested to see what will happen. But anybody who thinks they can build one is kidding themselves.
