So I'm in the process of laying out my re-build and I will have 2 SSDs, 4 HHDs, and 1 Optical Drive on a motherboard with 6 SATA ports. Having watched a LTT Handy Tech under $100 I discovered the existence of USB header to USB female ports, which sound great for a receiver I want to put inside the case. However, I thought I could find a SATA to USB header adapter so I could connect the data port on my optical drive to the board. I was mistaken as I can't find such a device.

I was hoping someone might have an idea as to where I could get one, or even tell me if they exist.

Other notes:

I have a bluray disc drive that I use for Vudu's disc to digital program and I don't much like the idea of swapping sata cables when I need it, or putting it in an enclosure. My case will have the room so I'd like to keep everything contained.

I know I can get a SATA card to add the ports also, which I'm not opposed to doing if a SATA to USB header cable doesn't exist.

Finally, I have more than enough ways to power the optical drive so data port to USB Header is really what I'm after.

Unlike USB to USB, you can't just use a dumb adapter to convert Sata to USB. The adapter has to have a Sata controller built into it. Get an external adapter and conver the USB-A to internal 9-pin or if you like, snip the cables and swap the connectors.

Thanks. That's what I thought and it all makes sense when laid out in simple terms.
