So, I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU for Christmas. I have a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB of ram, (32 shipping in now) and an I7 3770 @ 3.4GHz. I was thinking about getting the 4790k or should I go with something like the 6700k for the long run? I would appreciate your opinions.

Also, if you get the 6700k, all of your nice 32gb ram would be wasted :P

What's with the upgrade? 1060 with a 3770 sounds pretty nice. Plus the 6700k would render that 32gb ram useless as well, and a 4790k is better than a 3770, but not better enough to warrant a new motherboard and cpu. If you really want to upgrade, wait and see what Kaby Lake will bring.

Nothing.

Your 3770 uses DDR3, the newer processors use DDR4

well I mean you can use DDR3 but you need to find a board that supports it and also it may kill the CPU or RAM

Yeah, and you CAN play Russian roulette, but why would you. And actually no, it would only support DDR3L (low voltage). Anyone running ddr3 in this case would be a fool.
