I'm looking to make an upgrade on my rig...but I'm not sure where I should start. Ideally I'd like to stay under $300 USD. I game at 1080p 60 fps (when I can) and don't have any plans of touching 4K or VR. The games are mostly World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Civ 6, Dishonored 2, and Hitman.

Important specs -

MOBO: Asus Sabertooth X58

CPU: Intel Core i7-950

Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660

8 GB RAM

Well, you need a new CPU and graphics card, so where to start is tricky.

To make an decent upgrade to the CPU would require a new i5 or i7 CPU plus motherboard, and perhaps new RAM as well. That would cost over $300. (i5 + b150/H170 motherboard + 8-16Gigs DDR4 RAM)

An AMD RX 480 or nVidia GTX-1060 could be gotten for under $300 though, but you'll will then find that the CPU becomes a limiting factor.

If you find that your performance in WoW is not as good as you want, you probably need to upgrade the CPU more than the graphics.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD
