I am building a new PC for a friend and we are not purchasing a dvd drive, mostly for aesthetic purposes. Is it possible for me to connect his empty HDD to my pc and load windows on it so when I connect it in his new build I just boot from it and it will work?

You should just use your thumb drive with the Windows ISO on it. It's easy and there is a million guides out there, even one here on LTT I think.

or invest in a external cd-rom drive.. that's what I did.. comes in handy sometimes and you can always remove it and throw it in a drawer.
