what looks better a 24" 2560x1440 monitor or 27" 2560x1440

a 24 1440p screen will have a ridiculously high pixel density. You'd loose much of the gained screen real estate for productivity again since you'd probably be forced to use text scaling.

Usually, people (like me) go with 27" for 1440p.

This is a personal choice, asking other peoples opinions won't really help yours, you'd be better finding a store that has one or both in stock, and looking at them yourself.

Personal choice. I would take a 1440p 24".

Would not move up to 27" before 4K

27" if you want text to be legible and it actually be usable

24" if you just want a sharper resolution in games.

You can always put the 24" one closer to you to get the same perceived screen size since the resolution is the same. But putting the monitor closer to you will take more space on your desk plus having a larger screen further away always feels more natural imho.
