3d tracking

Hi guys i would like yo track a pair of drum sticks in 3d how could i do that would it be possible in a cheap way if possible with a Arduino. I thought about accelerometer but people say the tracking gets bad after a few seconds.

I don't think an arduino would be powerful enough. The only way I can think of to do something like this would be to setup an array of cameras to track the movement of the object.
