You may have to reactivate or call [Microsoft]. Just tell them that your motherboard died and you needed a new one.

Hi there :)

As @deXxterlab97 suggested, you may need to get a new copy of the OS. I'd check the licence you have and see if you can reuse the Os key that you currently have to make a fresh install on the new hardware.

Generally, you can't simply take the old drive and put it in the new build and boot the OS. When installing a OS it is adjusted to the specific hardware it is being installed on and even if the new hardware is close as specs the the old one you may still notice errors, BSODs, unstable behavior and other problematic situations even if you manage to boot from it so a fresh install of the OS is recommended. This will also create a new registry so you need to reinstall all your games and applications too.

You can still reuse your old drive and access the data on it. You need ti simply put all data on a second partition and wipe the OS partition through the Os installer when placing the new OS on the drive. The secondary partition should stay intact.

What's the drive's brand and model? I would strongly recommend checking its health with a manufacturer too land see the S.M.A.R.T. status and the overall condition of the rive before trusting it with data from your new build.

Let me know if you need any help!
