i7 3930k and GTX 1070

Darts401

Is anyone running a i7 3930k and a 1070 and noticing bottlenecks? This is my first high end system and can't tell when a bottleneck is happening. Things run great, just don't know if the 3930k is causing bottlenecks.

Laptop specs:

CPU: Core i7 3630QM

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT630M

RAM: 16gb of unknown origin

Storage: 1tb HDD (probably going to upgrade to an SSD at some point)

Mouse: Corsair M65 Pro RGB

It shouldn't be bottlenecking. Check your GPU usage in game. It should be at 95-100% most of the time.

Okay thanks! I know my CPU usage tends to be abot %50-%65, this is normal, correct?

I was running dual 980Ti's on a 3930K not too long ago and didn't notice any bottlenecks so you should be good with a single 1070.

That's a 5 year old cpu.  Might be a bit of a bottleneck.

It's a 6 core 12 thread CPU... and Intel CPU's don't really improve that much everytime Intel releases a new architechture.

It does.  Have you seen the 4970k compared to the 6700k when playing gta 5?  Bigger difference then you might think ;)

Okay, I just watched a Digital Foundry video on it, and I was wrong, the 6700K is 17% faster than the 4790K in GTA 5. It's still not worth upgrading his CPU though and it shouldn't be bottlenecking.

And another thing, faster memory (DDR4) could also be making a difference.

Doesn't the 6700k also have a little more cache?

No they both have 8M L3.

Oh, I'm not very informed about skylake, I was just going by what my friend said.
