Hey everyone, I'm currently looking for a monitor to match my new build.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/FbxNvV

I know that the gtx1080 can do 4k at around 60fps with reduced settings which I am fine with but will going with the more smooth 1440p be better?

Also, could someone explain what G-sync, v- sync and IPS panel means? I'm kind of confused to how it affects the panel and performance.

Edit: I'm looking for a more futureproof build, any suggestions for a budget but decent monitor? Thanks

I dont really recommend 4k on screens smaller then 27", you wont really see much of a difference. IPS is a panel technology, you mainly can choose from IPS and TN, IPS has better colors while TN panels generally have lower response times.

You can watch this video to learn more about G-SYNC. You will probably not use V-sync, but v-sync is a little like g-sync, you can google for more info

Desktop: i7-6700K / Asus Z170 S / H100i V2 / LPX 2400Mhz 16GB / 960 EVO 250GB / 2x 860 EVO 500GB / RM750i  / NZXT H440 XB271H + Z22n Monitors

Laptop: Thinkpad T450s / i7-5600U / 12GB / 860 EVO 500GB

g-sync is basically a technology that eliminates tearing and stuttering by adjusting the refresh rate of your screen to the frame rate of your game. it is really awesome and i have a g sync screen myself. an ips panel is a type of panel that produces better colours, contrast, colour accuracy, viewing angles, better blacks and many more they have slightly slower response times than tn panels but not by much. if youre spending so much on a build get a decent screen. the usability of 4k is really bad on windows. they are not all ips but are variants of the technology u can also consider ultrawide 3440x1440.
