Hi everybody, my first post on here. I'm looking at building myself a workstation computer that is also decent at gaming. Right now I am looking at a E5-2683 v3, 5820k and 6700k. I am kinda stuck on the question of whether I want 28 threads or 6 overclocked cores. any help would be appreciated.

Main Computer: Intel 9900k, Asus Maximus XI Formula, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x16GB 3000MHZ C15, EVGA GTX1070 Hybrid, Corsair HX850i, Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic, 26TB

2: Xeon 2695 V3, Asus x99-A II, Corsair Vengeance Pro 4x8GB 2666 C15, Corsair RX750

3: Dell R510 8-Bay, dual x5675, 16GB ECC, 8x600GB 15k SAS

You don't NEED a xeon. I'd say go with the 5820K honestly

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

the xeon you are looking at is more comparable in price to a 6950x i dont have enough knowledge to recommend the correct cpu for your workload. all i can say is that you have to research if the programs you are going to use scale well with high core count cpus and not many do. the adobe suite falls off hard after 4 cores.

this video from linus is a good example. it seems like price is not a concern and if you know you need high core count then go for the xeon. maybe you could look at the 6900k as it has 8 cores and is unlocked.
