Help with Budget PC

Helping a friend upgrade a PC. Here is the PC we pretty sure he has:

There is another similar version, with the difference of having more RAM, but that's about it. He bought it prebuilt. 

 

He basically needs to upgrade his whole PC. He has a monitor and keyboard+mouse already, but all the rest of his parts aren't very good. Here's what I came up with

Hitachi is fine, he can keep the PSU it's of good quality. I myself have the same model M32 (but it is M32AD) and uses a good Delta OEM PSU

Why new drive? Mine uses a really solid WD blue

Go for haswell so you can reuse the RAM.

You could get a cheaper mobo if you're really cutting costs

Is this going in the old case?

Why not recycle the old 1TB drive in this build and spend the money on an SSD boot drive?

It's an AcBel PSU. I wanted to go Skylake for a better upgrade path. He needs more storage. The current HDD is fine though.

which psu is in the pc? if its a delta/FSP you can keep it and use the moolah for an i5.

No particular budget, but he's asking for Christmas, so not too crazy.

 

Yes, it's going in the old case, and he is reusing the old HDD.

you can try a ddr3 skylake mobo to resue the ram.

Still, haswell and skylake isn't far apart but hey it's up to you. I am just saying he can save more money. Guess the M32BF and M32AD have different PSU

I mean, he's probably not going to be able to upgrade for a while, and he'd rather spend a little more now than buy DDR4 later. Plus, that would mean he would need a new mobo when he upgrades.

enough for a gtx 1050ti, not so sure about quality though.

OEM ones from prebuilts are mostly fine, it would be nice to look at the PSU though. Those 350W might not all be available on the 12V rail, or that could be a peak rating.

He's not completely rebuilding. I don't think he wants another case, so I went ATX. I'll consider this though.

Oh you're right, let's reuse that case as well and give him a GPU upgrade. Keep in mind the case he has is microATX, so it won't fit an ATX motherboard.

Hmm. If you want to give him a new case, the one on the other list (Core 1500) is still a mATX one. So instead get this
