New Budget PC, Help Needed

Hello,

Im going to finally update my rig which has served me well for a long time now and I need some help on which parts to chose.

Im currently using

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 OC'd to 2.8GHz from 2.13GHz

Some random ASUS board (SKT 775)

4GB DDR2 (Samsung and Corsair kits)

MSI Nvidia GTS450 OC Cyclone

Generic 550W Xenta Power supply

2x 250GB, 1x160GB, 1x80GB HDD

So I want to upgrade my processor, motherboard and RAM for the moment. I have been looking at the AMD Athlon x4 760K (FM2) and the intel core i3 3220 (SKT 1155)

I have seen many reviews of the i3 3220 and know what its performance is like because the school I attend, just refurbished all of their machines to 4GB DDR3 and i3 3220's. But I can not find any reviews or comparisons between the i3 and the 760K. I play quite a few games on steam and origin, so I was thinking that the AMD since it is a quad core would benefit me more than the Intel's dual core with hyper-threading, but the AMD only has 4MB L2 cache, where the i3 comes with 3MB L3 cache. I don't care for on-board video because of the GPU I'm using, that's why I was thinking the 760K because it's an APU without the graphics, My budget is around £160 - £180 for the three parts mentioned.  I have settled on a minimum of 8 GB for the RAM and was considering Corsair Vengeance memory (the old ones, not the new colorful ones) So that might be taken care of unless i get any better suggestions.

Any suggestions or any help will be gratefully accepted.

Also, sorry for the long post.

Also I forgot to mention, I would prefer the build to be uATX if possible because of space concerns.

Thanks for your help. Any suggestion for a motherboard?

You'd be better off putting £20 more into it and getting an FX-6300. If you just want a cheap motherboard that doesn't have anything special (to upgrade later) then the GA-78LMT-USB3 is a nice board, but if you want to get a board that'll last you a while, perhaps an Asrock 990FX extreme3?

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Stock, CPU cooler: Dark Rock 4, Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX, RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 @ 3000Mhz, GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2 + 2x120GB SSDs, Case: Corsair 110R, PSU: Corsair TX650M, OS: Windows 10 64-bit.

A 760K would be great for your budget. My recommendations: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1Ta9X
