Hey guys, I want to ask you if this old cpu (Core2Quad q9650 3.0 ghz) can still handle 2 gpus. It will be overclocked soon (Definitely at 4.0 ghz and even more). Currently it's working with Sapphire radeon r9 290. I want to buy another gpu, and I'm afraid, that this old grandpa can't handle both graphic card at same time. What do you think? Is there chance to run it? Thanks for answers :)

The single 290 is surely bottlenecked by the CPU already. I wouldnt buy another one, big waste of $. buy a new CPU Board Ram instead :P

Having a qXXX run 2 cards is like :

Water skiing 5 people at the time with a 15 hp boat.

the boat will simply not have enough power loll

It's mirracle but cpu can still hande gpu. It was little bottlenecked when cpu was running at factory frequency but after little oc (3.4 Ghz), everything runs smoother. I can say there is balance between gpu and cpu. I was checking it in MSI afterburner, while playing Witcher 3, gpu was loaded at 100% at ultra settings. I had also opened google chrome with 8 cards or what it is, antivirus, steam and seeding torrents maybe something else. And I don't have Tri-X version of gpu (just in case you thought that I have). I was comparing my fps with internet and I had same results. I mean fps in games. But I think that there can be problem with cpu hungry games like Cities Skylines.

I don't believe you'll be overclocking it to 4GHz

yes you can run it, but it's not optimal

CPU: Intel i7 5820K @ 4.20 GHz | MotherboardMSI X99S SLI PLUS | RAM: Corsair LPX 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz | GPU: Sapphire R9 Fury (x2 CrossFire)
Storage: Samsung 950Pro 512GB // OCZ Vector150 240GB // Seagate 1TB | PSU: Seasonic 1050 Snow Silent | Case: NZXT H440 | Cooling: Nepton 240M
FireStrike // Extreme // Ultra // 8K // 16K
