Hi,

So let me first start by saying "Please forgive me if this is a DUMB question."

But I want to know, before I spend hours on it, if it's possible to setup SMART RESPONSE ssd caching on my RAID 1. I have 2x (2TB WD HDD's) on a RAID card, and I want to "TRY" to use the MoBo's SMART RESPONSE to SSD CACHE them. Is that at all possible & how hard would it be?

Thanks,

LemacCalliendo

P.S. - I've never posted on a forum so apologize if etiquette is improper.

Hi there :) Welcome to the community!

Could you provide your motherboard's model? Also, what WD drives are you using? What SSD are you planning on using for caching?

I believe this topic can be a good start before you provide additional information.

Just a heads up that the link to the Intel community forum isn't working.

Apologies, it's a topi with users that try to do exactly this: cache a RAID1 array with this tool.

https://communities.intel.com/thread/26610 This is the link to the thread. I hope it's useful to OP.

Hey, WOW. thanks for the quick response. So, I was wrong about the HDD's the WD's went into another system.

The HDD's I have in this one are SEAGATEs.

The Hardware in question are:

MoBo - Gigabyte -   GA-H97M-HD3

HDDs - Seagate  -   ST2000DM001 (x2)

SSD   - Crucial    -    Crucial M4 64Gb - (CT064M4SSD2) - Firmware currently at 010G *needs updataing.

Thanks

LemacCalliendo

It's odd I used Seagate I do prefer WD.

Hi again :)

Did you manage to take a look at the link that I provided?

Make sure you have all the latest updates of your OS, drivers and BIOS as well as all firmware across your drives and try using the caching method. Contacting the manufacturer of your motherboard for more details and suggestions could be a good thing.

You are most welcome :) Do try these things and let us know if it works.

Could you elaborate a bit on the reason why you are trying to cache your RAID1? Any specific type of usage that requires a performance boost on the most used things there?
