Upgrading cpu

Is it worth to 'upgrade' from amd a8 5600k oc'd to 4.00ghz to intel i7 4790k ?

I mean all in all they both have 4 cores...

Should i go a bit more powerful or i7 is that more powerful than 5600k ?

Pc will be used for gaming.

Not all cores are created equal. The AMD A8, technically, has two "modules" which each consist of 2 quasi-cores with some shared resources.

An i3-6100 would perform at least as well as the A8 - so an i5-4790K would be a great improvement.

If you're not concerned about re-using your current DDR3 RAM, then an i5-6500 or 6600K with DDR4 RAM would be even better.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

Alright....

So if i get i7 6700k, that means buying ddr4 ram. (I am aiming for 16gb ddr4).

As well as new motherboard, so what do you recommend as new motherboard and how much would it cost .. with new cpu,ram and new mb.

I am asking for aproximat price.

You can probably find a decent mobo for $120-$150.

Excuse me if this sounds condescending or whatever, but are you aware that you'd need a new motherboard with an i7-4790 too? An i7-4790 won't fit into the A8's motherboard.

The advantage of using the i7-4790 would be that you could reuse your DDR3 RAM.

In any case, an i5-6500/6600(K) (or i5-4690) would be more cost effective for gaming.

For a Skylake CPU, if you don't intend to overclock a B150 or H170 motherboard that has the features you want is good.

For OC'ing, you'd want a Z170 based chipset.

For the older Haswell (i5-4690/i7-4790) a B85 or H97 chipset, or Z97 for OC'ing.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
