So my school is planning on recycling old computers, and they said that they'd be willing to give some away. I was thinking that it would be cool to tinker with and then give to like a family member or something. I would just like some feedback on the system and what I can do to make it better. I would need a graphics card as well.

System Specs:

Intel Core2Duo E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz

4GB RAM

PSU: Stock one that came with the system

1 PCI E x16 gen 2 slot

Hard Drive: I have a spare ssd lying around so...

And it also has no pcie 6-8 pin connectors.

So what would be a good graphics card for this system, and are there any changes i should make?

Why would you need a graphics card for these.

Do you not understand that people are telling you this computer is too crap to play any kind of games? It's got a duel core processor, awful powersupply, and a motherboard that won't support many graphics cards, especially any good ones. Your best bet is to just use these computers for what they were intended for. You won't get much more out of them than web browsing and day to day tasks.

i hear everybody complaining about the cpu, well i'm gonna defend it.

My current pc has the exact same one and also 4gb RAM.

I bought myself a palit gtx 750ti. it does wonders.

games you can expect to play: just cause 2, cities skylines up to around 70k people, valve games.

also it's a beast pc if you compare it to the pc's i had before it. i only got them from my dad's work for free.

my second pc was from dec-1999 and i'm from nov-1999 so almost as old as me. and THIS, this pc is a godsbless for me

Looks like a great web surfing PC or perhaps a server for testing purposes. It would also make for a "decent" "mainstream" "gaming" rig, if you were to couple it with a lower level GPU that has no external power inputs. I myself am playing on one of these C2D CPUs and they are good enough on LoL, CS:GO, Minecraft...

You take the one reply who says your computer is good out of all the rest who say it is bad and you just run with it ignoring all the others? 10/10 logic.

I think you need to take a look at the games he said you would be able to play with your processor and a 750 ti. You'll notice just how old or non intensive they are. Valve games can be ran on an LED candle and Just Cause 2 came out for the original Xbox for goodness sake. It IS true that you can play those games, but don't expect good framerate in any semi-modern AAA title.
