AMD Athlon X4 860K vs Intel i3 6100

Im building a budget gaming rig and im not sure whether to use the 860K or the i3 6100 CPU. Im planning on using a GTX 1050Ti though i may get the 3Gb 1060 if my budget allows. The 860K is cheaper and has quad cores and the same base clock speed. is there any point in getting the i3 6100 or will i just be throwing money down the toilet?

i3 6100 is significantly more powerful. Defiantly get it if you can afford it.

I would get the i3 just for the upgrade path, the fm2+ socket  is pretty much dead. But with the i3 you could upgrade to a i5/i7 when you get some more money.

I would recommend to save up a little bit more. It will all in all last you for longer and be a much better experience, and if you buy cheaper today you'll get a computer that lasts for decidedly less time. At the very least, I would get this:

I would say that this is the sweet spot for price to performance that you can get. I wouldn't drop the SSD, it's one of the more important factors to a smoother computing experience.
