@aisle9 oh alright and also how many games would you get on the ssd vs hdd

The SSD is on the small side, and you'd only get a few on there. The HDD is about 9 times as big, and could hold many, many more.

@aisle9 and on the other side i don`t want the loading screens to be 3 years long

My general advice is to go with the biggest SSD you can afford first, then get a HDD later.

@aisle9 well i think it would be better to go from like a 1tb hdd to later on a 1tb ssd

If you're going to do a straight clone, yes, but keep in mind that a 1TB SSD still runs north of $200 in the US. That's a pretty substantial bump. The usual setup for gaming PCs is an SSD for the OS and an HDD for games. $250 might get me a 1TB SSD here, or it could get me a 480GB SSD and a 2TB (or more) HDD. See the logic?

@aisle9 but you could save $200 in like 2 or so years because there is no rule on when to change and also they are most likely going to slowly start to drop in price over time probably

Correct, but I'm assuming you'll buy the HDD a couple of months after building the system. If you're waiting two years to do a mass CPU/storage upgrade, then yeah, the HDD makes a ton of sense.

Honestly, with that much space for that little money, the HDD is very tempting now, even if it is at the expense of an SSD to boot from. 2TB for 38GBP is really tempting, almost to the point that even I would do it if my budget meant it was SSD or HDD, not both.

@aisle9 well if i do get the ssd then i will most likely have to install and delete games because i like a massive range of games from Forza Horizon 3 to ARMA 3 (haha seems like i like the 3)

ARMA 3 only eats up 15GB, but Forza chews through 55GB (well over 20% of your drive). Not having an SSD isn't the end of the world at all. The main place you'll notice it is while the machine is booting up.

There is another option, and it's not one I usually recommend, but...SSHD.

Look it up. I personally think they're a compromise not worth making, but if you want near-SSD performance while the system boots and don't mind the terrible per-GB premium you pay for those fast boots, they might work for you.

okay @aisle9 the games i always will want on my pc are:

  • GTA 5
  • Forza 6 Apex and Horizon 3
  • MC (not much space)
  • Payday 2
  • Portal
  • ETS 2
  • CS:GO
  • BeamNG.drive
  • The crew
  • Car mechanic sim

will all that go on one ssd?

After OS, you'd have about 200GB available on your SSD. GTA 5, Forza 6 and Horizon 3 eat up almost 150GB of that by themselves.

I'd say you need storage more than speed lol

@aisle9 yeah see now why i want to go towards the hdd?

Yeah, in your situation, if you can't scrounge up the cash for both, I'd go with the HDD over the SSD.

@aisle9 if i were to say get money for both how would that work?

Install your OS on the SSD along with a couple of your more demanding games (probably GTA 5 and the Forzas), then install everything else onto your HDD.

@aisle9 so i might order everything except the hdd and then in like a month or two the hdd

That's how I'd do it. You can run the PC without the HDD just fine, then just install it when it arrives.

@aisle9 but what if i mess up and break a pin or two?

Installing the CPU? You won't. Just take your time, make sure you're lined up properly and gently set the CPU into the socket. I've done it dozens of times and have never bent or broken a pin, right back to the very first time I installed a CPU.

Nice try. :P

Like I said way earlier, just follow the instructions in the motherboard manual and you'll be fine.
