What GPU should I get?

One of the games that runs well at 4K on a 1080, look at the huge performance delta from 1440P.

I am getting a new GPU for Christmas. Currently I have a GTX 560 Ti and an i7 2600. I plan on a 4k monitor later, so 4k support is needed. I don't usually play the latest AAA games, but I would like the option and longer life span till I need to upgrade. I'm also on a budget.

Nothing, just save your coins and start all over in a build! Get a I7-6700k and a 1080 GTX system!

If you're looking for 2160@60hz, get a 1080. I would look for a monitor with displayport as HDMI can't do 2160@60 yet, IIRC.

GTX 1070 and go 1440P, you would need a pair of 1080's to really enjoy 4K properly.

One 1080 can do nearly every game on the market 2160@60 with one step down on AA which isn't needed at 2160.

No, can't afford to make it from cratch and why would I? I can just keep upgrading my current PC as I need.

I don't mind lowered settings though, and antialiasing is a non-issue because the 4k monitor I plan on is retina (The 23" dell one) The budget is about $750. (Australian, in USD it'd be less)

Yeah right now is not the problem, the 1080 barely holds on at 60hz 4K, and goes as low as 40FPS.

Newer games will forever be coming out dragging performance down, as i said comfortably at 4K right now you need an SLi system.

Anti-aliasing at 2160 takes a LOT of GPU performance to pull off for a whole lot of nothing. Also, those benchmarks are done with everything including AA maxed.

if you want to upgrade to 2160p-60fps you need to buy a gtx 1070/1080 and a suitable processor to handle them. good luck on a budget.

Who wouldn't want 4k for free? Upgrading instead of paying again for stuff like a case and PSU seems smart.

what do you mean free? and yeah I understand not upgrading a case, maybe a PSU (depends) but you need to upgrade everything pretty much

I'd consider a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080.

The GTX 1070 should hit 4K on high settings for about 30-50 FPS on most titles, though I'd consider going SLI here and/or lower some settings, like AA.

The GTX 1080 is better at 4K and can do it on high settings for about 40-60 FPS on most titles, though again, I'd consider SLI and/or lower some settings, like AA.

For both cards, I'd also recommend overclocking a little bit to take advantage of the card as much as possible. It's free performance just waiting to be used.

This is with everything on Max unlike the benchmark from TPU.

With 750 aud i suggest if your aiming for 4k then dont becuase upgrading your system will take around 800-1000$ if you want a i7 6700 and gtx 1070 or 1080

with your budget you can just upgrade to 1060 and an i5 6500 which can run 1440p decent but will struggle at 4k or you could just save more money to buy 1080 and i7

I mean free because "without paying any money" <--- FREE? I don't think getting a 4k monitor and gpu free is remotely likely, but who wouldn't want it?

Seriously though, I got my answer. Thanks.

What a benchmark for what I said. No AA means Hairworks, apparently. Also, GamersNexus has called the game poorly optimized. Also, 30hz on 2160 looks smoother than 1080@60 due to the extra pixels present on screen.

Now you think pixels are related to refresh rate.

Anyway i have shared my thoughts, you need an SLi system for 4K, the OP's budget is too low, i suggest a 1070 and a 1440P display.

More pixels give more detail and more detail allows the eye to perceive smoother motion. Find me a benchmark where anti-aliasing is lowered rather than something inane like Hairworks and then I'll concede.
