Mixing memories with different timing

Go to solution Solved by Droidbot,

memory kits have to be identical to what you currently have in terms of everything except higher speeds can downclock.

CL timings have to be IDENTICAL. Sorry bruh. Sell your vengeance kit.

I was planning on upgrading my memory (Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL8 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8) to 16GB, so I figured the obvious choice would be another kit, but I found out that it is no longer available in my country and on sites like amazon it is crazy expensive for me (around 100 bucks). It is also nowhere to be found in used markets, so I came up with some alternatives, but don't know what would be the best choice(would different timings cause problems or they can be set in the bios to the higher one etc.):

  • CL7 kit for 32$ CMZ8GX3M2X16000C7R
  • CL9 kit for 35$ CML8GX3M2A1600C9W
  • Or sell my old one and buy a 2x8GB CL9 XMS3 kit for 64$

timings? i am pretty sure you meant clock speed, or they are just the same thing. is would work but the ram with the higher clock speed would be down-clocked to be as same as the lowest one

Timings are a separate thing (CL9, CL8, those are timings). I don't really know what they are, but they are not clock speed.
